To be done on either the full moon or new moon.
When possible, please gift yourself with the wonder of working outside on the full moon, or the new moon (dark moon).
If the temperature is permitting, place a blanket in a comfortable/quiet place. Smudge the area with cedar or sage, if you do not have this material than use whatever you have access to. You do not need a candle on full moon,
because Grandmother Moon is all the light you will need. If you are working with the dark moon than use a single white or silver candle representing the hidden moon. You may also have a small fire. I often just take a portable grill base with me for safety reasons, especially during a dry season.
Lay down and look upward to the sky and stare into the face of the moon, it is said that the moon is female, She controls the tides, and one could also say because a woman’s Moontime is also every twenty-eight days.. the number of days between full and dark moons. If she is hidden, move your head until something just says be stilled.. that will be where you can see her in your mind’s eye.
As you become relaxed.. paying attention to take a few deep breaths, relaxing more… allowing yourself to become more and more relaxed… now close your eyes and just let the moon regulate the rhythm of the breath. Just relax…. Let it be as it should be.. Allow your heart to be in rhythm with the earth beneath you….
Now stand, with your both arms raised above your head and call to her. “Grandmother/Sister Moon.. hear me” You would then state what you are wanting to release. It can be a physical release of health issues, it can be an emotional release needed etc. Now bring your hands down to the heart charka, placing both palms on your chest.
If you feel a song/poem touching your lips.. give it as a gift to her, if you have brought your drum or rattle.. then begin by drumming and then sing or speak your heart. When your song is complete…. Give thanks to Spirit and to Grandmother/Sister Moon for listening.
*** Always leave a gift, it can be blue corn, corn meal, fruit/berries etc..
Blessings,
Joyce
