Why did I title this article, "Fire the Ego"? First of all, we must understand what the ego is. It is a part of us that accepts input from both our intellectual aspect and our feeling aspect. And these inputs are sometimes at odds with each other, but the ego accepts them and then decides which it likes, or perhaps neither of them. It is the part of us that says, I am (add your name here). It is also the part of us that thinks that it is superior to, or inferior to, other people. And here is the really weird part, it may decide that we are both superior and inferior to others at the same time!
The ego bases its perceptions on past events and projects them into the future. The past events that it bases its perceptions on are often bad experiences. So through fear, it sets up our future, never really living in the NOW. As a result, we move into our future with an attitude of fear, even if it is on a subconscious level. Much of this fear is based on its perceived guilt for some offense to the Divine. And that is ridiculous as the Divine holds nothing against us. It knows that we are human and thus are fallible. It has unconditional love for us, but that is a topic for a future dissertation.
The ego is judgmental, it is constantly judging others, and it has no right to do that, after all, how can it possibly know what others are truly like, what their circumstances are, it has not walked a mile in their shoes. But what may be even worse, it also judges us. Its judgements are fear based and guilt based.
Wouldn't it be much better if we could just be our true SELF and fire the ego?
