Programming Yourself to an “I Can” Attitude

In many ways, the human brain resembles a computer, and just as a computer can be programmed to act in certain ways, so can the human brain, even though the brain has to be programmed in a different way than a digital computer, you can’t plug in a string of ones and zeros.

We tend to go through life building negative programs within ourselves, and we don’t even realize that we are doing it. Every time that we say, “I can’t,” that re-enforces that negative program. Every time that we say, “I can,” that subtracts from that negative program. And we have hundreds of these negative programs running all the time.

In some ways, the subconscious mind is very much like a computer. Whatever information comes to it, it stores. And it does not discriminate. And it does set up the programs that we build with our thoughts, words and feelings. So if you have said, “I can’t,” one thousand times, that is a thousand negative votes. How many times do you think that you are going to have to say, “I can,” in order to cancel out all of those negative votes? You guessed it, one thousand.

Fortunately, there is a way to speed it up. Lets take one simple negative program and eliminate it. Lets say that you have programmed yourself to be unable to see an aura. You have said, over and over, “I can’t see an aura.” Now to eliminate that program, you need to change that to, “I can see auras.” Saying it once is one vote against the negative program. But what if you were to write it down on a piece of paper? Another positive vote. Now every time that you read those written words, that is one positive vote. But what if you read them aloud? You would get one positive vote for seeing the words, another positive vote for speaking them and still another positive vote for hearing your own words! So if you wrote them down 50 times, there are 50 votes. Now read them all aloud and there is another 150 votes. At that rate, you could soon overcome that negative program and replace it with a positive program.

The same method can be used with any negative program that you have built. Just be aware that with some of these negative programs, you may have cast far more than a thousand negative votes. Does that make you a basket case? Not at all, and your case is not hopeless, it just means that you are going to have to work at it.
